393 pages including index. Red cloth covered boardswith gold lettering show mild bumping to spine and corners. Illustrated edition with additional notes and corrections to the original edition, which began from an inviation to give the Ford Lectures at Oxford, but 3/4 of the articles were written since their delivery in Hilary term 1928. With five plates: portrait of Thomas WOlsey (made about 1560); Henry VIII with Thomas Wolsey, detail from 1520 picture; William Warham, by Holbein 1527; Sir Thomas More, a drawing by Holbein, probably 1526; and Thomas Cranmer, a painting by Flicke in 1546.
